Been around my writing for a while? You may recall that I author a fortnightly column for a Jamaican newspaper.
But is it the same as the stuff in the podcast and mini-books?
Well, no it isn’t, because for a bit more than a decade, I have followed a cadence of writing short-form articles before tackling the longer stuff. That means only the readers of my column get my newest ideas.
This all changed almost three years ago when…unannounced…the Jamaica Gleaner newspaper, imposed a digital paywall. And subscribers began to complain.
After all, who wants to pay a monthly subscription to read an occasional article? This led me to bring in Ai to craft a different version of the original published piece, and place it on my blog in text and audio formats.
But here at JumpLeap, you still wouldn’t know it exists. Until this weekend.
On Saturday, I finally put all the publications together here at Substack, starting with the article you received earlier this week. It’s entitled “From Panic to Purpose” and it highlights a challenging quote from Jeff Bezos. It’s available now in written form, or via a local Substack podcast. (See the tab for Chronicles.)
Plus, in the near future, you will be introduced to an interesting topic of discussion directly related to long-term strategy.
It revolves around our Vision 2030 Jamaica - a master plan for our country. It’s similar to 40 + other National Development Plans developed around the world.
I’ll be publishing a post later this week explaining why it’s a convenient controversy to learn from, whether you work in public or private sectors.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, when you commit to game-changing outcomes, you must contend with long-term strategic planning. And this is exactly why ignorance is so costly. Unwittingly, leaders find themselves relocated to a new world they aren’t prepared to succeed in…so they make fatal mistakes.
This drama is playing out in multiple countries around the world.
However, many are facing significant obstacles. By focusing on the case of Jamaica, I hope to draw some general insights. My goal is to bend the needle a bit in the right direction. As you can see, there is a countdown underway as many countries approach their self-declared deadlines.
I have looked around the web and can’t find anyone watching the clock on a global scale, popcorn in hand, as the tension builds.
On that dramatic note, enjoy this twist on long-term strategic planning!
And thanks for being a subscriber.
